I am not from Idaho, but I agree with you that the media is, at times, making the real estate market seem worse than it really is.

Yes that is what I see. When a bad report is on TV people jump back on the fence. I think the media is making things scary for people

Let's see the numbers and then we can decide if the media are scaring people or agents are serving kool aid a la Jamestown. I will take the posters RE market - Idaho Falls:
Since October 2009 - Idaho Springs prices have dropped by ~25%
Since 2010 - Idaho Springs prices have dropped ~5.7% Y-t-Y.
There are 771 houses for sale in Idaho Falls.
In the last year (Nov 2010 till Oct 2011) ONLY 63 homes were sold.
=>Idaho Springs has a 12 year supply of homes!!!
Now is the media scaring people or are you trying to get people to commit financial suicide for your commission?

The market in Idaho seemed late to peak and I suspect that it is on a similar timeline with the Pacific Northwest.
Idaho is a beautiful state, but right now the employment pressure and housing oversupply seems to be putting pressure on the local RE markets from what I can tell on the outside.
