Is it advisable to purchase a house that has a less square footage, high cost than neighbors?

But has some good upgrades in kitchen, around the house and rest of the house? Neighborhood houses are rates 20-30K below the listed price.

This is only my opinion but I had a similar situation. When we bought our house new it was smaller but cost more than some houses slightly bigger in the same neighborhood. A friend of ours bought a house bigger in the same neighborhood but paid less per sq foot than we did and actually less overall. Our house was more appealing than his, but on paper his actually appraised higher because of the extra sq footage. Well when he moved and tried to sell he couldn't sell it. It's been on the market almost 2 years now and when we moved we were able to get out of ours in only a month so perhaps there are some pros and cons to buying a higher priced per sq ft house. Chances are if you like it others will feel the same when you sell it, so sometimes it pays not to be a cheap on price per sq ft I suppose.
