Is there a way for me to determine what school the kids will go to for interested home?

Profile picture for lavania

I am interesting in buying a home and what's important to me besides location is the
school my 2 young kids will be attending. Is there a way to filter that info in?

Visit your local municipality's website. Mine (Basking Ridge, NJ) has a search engine that allows you to plug in a street address and it will tell you what school your kids will be attending. Maybe your town's website has the same thing.

The Realtor MLS can filter that and a lot more easily and you can verify the corectness by calling the district with that particular address. They also have boundary maps you could refer to.

"Your Realtor will be able to provide you information of the school nearest to your new home."

That may hold true "most" of the time, but it's not always the case. Your better off identifying the district, and then directly contacting them to determine who goes where. In our case, our oldest had to drive past a high school to get to the high school he was assigned to - and the district didn't provide busing because there were not enough students from our area attending that particular high school (imagine that?).

The best way to get the most accurate information is to contact a local Realtor and you can specify the school disctrict and schools of your choice and have them send you listings that match your needs. Hope that helps.

There is no way to filter that on Zillow. You can filter for that with the local MLS or some agent search engines online. Pflugerville SD has a school finder here where you can enter an address and see what school it attends.

Before you make an offer on any house it is smart to independently check the attendance area with the District since mistakes do happen on the MLS sometimes and schools are so important.

While a local agent should know which schools are involved, if you want to be sure, call the school district and give them the address. They will tell you which schools the property is in.

Yes, a REALTOR® listing a property can, and usually does, investigate the school district briefly and insert it into the listing. However, the agent has no way of knowing for sure whether that school will take your child as a new student, and the school can also change during the course of the listing. Please don't depend on the MLS nor a real estate agent to tell you what school your child will go to, if that is important to you. Do call the school mentioned on the listing, and verify that enrollment is open to your child.

Good luck with your home purchase!

Our MLS allows the listing agent to identify the schools, but if that is not the case, why don't you call the listing agent and ask her.  Or.....contact the school district and see if they can share with you the boundries for their schools, they may even have it online.  The best of luck!

In our local MLS we can search by school district, it's reasonable that an agent in your area can do the same.  Find a buyer's agent in your area and ask them about searching for you buy school district.  Also, most states publish "school report cards"  so ask about that too.

Hi, Lavania.

You could ask your agent or the listing agent marketing the home.

If that doesn't work, most school districts have boundary maps on their websites.  You may have to navigate through the site school by school to look at each individual map, but it's another solution.

Hope this is helpful.
