It looks like the local listing market uses a different convention from most places for lot size. Unless I miss my guess, the lot size is listed as front length, one side, the other side, all in feet. Unfortunately, when fed into zillow's computer that makes it look like every house in Vegas is on 6000 acres or more. ;) I have a semi-dormant dream of getting some private acreage and a small house waaaay out there -- maybe in the mountains, and about as far from the city as possible while still being on the grid. What's the best way to learn about these types of properties?

Lot Size is measured in Square feet. It's easy to calculate if the lot is rectangle. For example a lot of 100 ft by 150 ft will be 15,000 square feet. One acre is 43,460 square feet. To get homes with larger size lots just include the size in square feet in your search.
