Is there a way to remove the Price History for my property? That is what I consider private.

Zillow pays multiple data collection companies for collection of public records data and conversion to an electronic format.

But just my area alone, I notice that transactions that occurred more than 40 years ago don't show up on this site, but just have the "Historical transaction data is not available for this home" message.

There are two distinct possibilities...
1) The county didn't pay to have those records converted from microfilm to something more up to date.
2) Zillow only paid the data collection companies to go back 40 years or so.

Which it is... probably depends on the area and the data collection company.

Inheritances also don't seem to show up on Zillow's records.

But Zillow's database seems to be improving, as previously transactions from 25 years ago were not showing up.

Most information out there is more or less open for all to see. For good or bad this is the way things are moving, which includes this post. The best thing is to consider everything we do outside the walls of our home with few exception may be public. Should your concerns be great, than consider a movement to change the laws. Personally, I would like to have more privacy but that would mean no more electronic communication which includes shutting down all business activities.

Some properties do not show up because they were recorded outside of CA, others do not show up because that specific County has a way of recording properties that is not exactly "private", but requires interested people to request the public record in person or by filling out a form instead of just transferring all data electronically.

Every CA County is a little different, but you can ask what the options are in yours. As the other poster said, the majority of States allow the publication of the sales price and other details as part of the public record. I think that people should have the option to make that information less accessible, but I have seen the other side in states like Texas where non disclosure makes finding out the real value or trends in the market very difficult. It is a problem any way you slice it.

You may consider it private. However, California doesn't. Your disagreement is with California. Most states (there are a few exceptions) treat price history as public information.
