Andreausa,
The best way to determine the crime rate in a particular area is to call the local police department.  But, please remember, there is crime in all areas and police, in general, tend to be negative.  Just because there may have been a recent crime doesn't mean it is a terrible place to live.  There are many other factors to consider. Hope that helps!
