Well, at least part of the mystery is solved...
David G. had suggested I post one request to see how the system works anonymously, but when I looked up a quote with the ID number it got assigned to my profile; and when I looked at someone elses request, mine got replaced on my profile with theirs. At the time I tested, it stated that editing a request would replace the existing, but when editing, it just created a new ID.
But now, when you are looking at a request that you supposedly created (which I didn't as the reference got replaced...) Zillow states:
So, each time this person is looking at their quotes using the "quotes received" link on the Mortgage tab, they are just pressing one of the "repost loan request" links.
So, now I'm wondering what happens to the quotes on a loan officer's profile if the loan request was "reposted" with the same quote request ID, but new date? Do the old quotes still exist? And if they exist, do they link back to the request that has a "future" date from the quote date?
(Too bad I didn't save any of the quote ID's and loan officer names the first time I looked at the request in the original post...)

Rates change often so the rates below may be out of date. Repost loan request to get new quotes.

No, a defect on the quote filtering... The default should be either "show all" or "30 yr fixed", yet for some reason it came out with none selected.
With "all" selected, it shows 20 quotes.
Just "more bugs" in trying to work out the bugs.
And notice, if you try to select to E-mail any of them, the "submit" button is grayed out, meaning you can't. So why didn't they just gray out the "contact" button instead, or remove the contact button completely?
But the "quote request" form is in the left hand margin now, with the details of the quote request, so anyone can tweak something (or not), and press the "get quotes" button again; but then that button seems to be grayed out too; so it is necessary to clear cookies and be an anonymous user to press that button on someone else's request. Maybe it is even necessary to us a different IP address; but it still looks very "buggie" to me.

Nope, they're not deleted. You now have to sort which types of loans you want to see under programs. It defaults to none.

I think even if you do decide to quote again, you should use a second profile; so that you can maintain direct contact from discussions.
I think there is a way to filter the requests for reasonableness; but Zillow does make it difficult by not providing filters on the search page for the issues that make new loans impossible. And no matter how many times we tell them, they still deny seeing the problems.
I keep wondering if I intentionally drained all the quoters accounts each time they quote the Palo Alto requesters bogus requests, whether Zillow would take any action to fix the problem...? (It isn't worth my time, and I'm not that malicious).

Yes, as soon as you can convince the Zillow staff to:
1) Provide all the required data for analysis of the loans
2) Check reasonableness on the form prior to request submittal
3) Correct CIC charges for actual loan potential, as well as estimated number of contacts per request
4) Pre-screen requesters to make sure it is not a loan officer just intending to drain other people's accounts or substantially wasting their competition's time.

The Palo Alto Requester is back... This time 1990 origination date:
12% present fixed loan refi request
And the existing payment amount is still shown wrong; showing as $6k per month, when it should be $9612 to finish paying off the remaining balance in the remaining 10 years.
31 more bogus quotes for the bogus request...

It appears that a "repost request" no longer puts the date of the "repost" for the date of the request, but leaves the date it had... at least that is what it looks like from one Washington request that was a few weeks old that only had quotes from two days ago....
I think this is likely an improvement as it prevents those "back to the future" links.
And it appears that the Requester in Palo Alto has stopped pushing the "repost" button.

Another ridiculous request in Santa Clarita, with a balance of about $700k:
Loan Originated Last year at 4.5% 30 year fixed interest, reason for request is to lower payments, no cash out....
I'm sure that no one really believes that can be done at this time, unless the loan is going to cost a lot more at the back end. And where are they going to get the funds for closing the loan? Why don't they just use those funds to pay down the loan?
70 quotes provided, indicating no one is really paying attention to the reason for the request.

Let's just say that I had been 'somewhat' locked up by the lingering hope that the quoting odds here at Zillow would have improved a good deal after the pay per contact genre began...after all, that's what the nice salesman stated. However, that was hardly the case.
It became time to move from hope to logic, at least until they get their grit together and stop the likes of 1750 and 1980...which simply equates to redirecting time and energy to alternate/more traditional marketing routes.
No matter how much some will complain, rain, rain everyday I say...
afterall sooner then not, it will be very dry and hot

I take it that means that the "vision quest" was successful?

I can see clearly now the quoting is gone...
In the broker shop days, files were tossed against the Underwriter's wall to see if they would stick. Here, we see quotes hurled against the Zillow wall with the same blind enthusiasm... ching ching

1980 refi quote request re-posted again today, 1 hour ago.
35 takers again.
Oh when will they (loan officers), every learn?
You can't refinance something that doesn't exist. You can't finance the loan balance with no additional cash out if the loan is supposed to be paid off. You can't reduce the interest when the interest posted can't possibly be right with the amount borrowed and monthly payments given.

Glad you are not "gone". I didn't notice the $70 quotes yet, but checking the loan request search page.... the $70 quotes requests began 15 hours ago. 18 have been provided so far.
Responses vary from 5 quotes to 45 quotes per costly request.

"Is there an easy way to find out how many contacts were made in total off this bogus request and how much lenders have paid in clicks?" -
Zillow has access to SOME of those numbers; but if the phone calls were used, they can't be tracked back to a specific quote since the same phone number is used for all contacts of that price for that loan officer. The rest of us have to just guess. We don't have access to the data.
Those that are robo-quoting may be able to do some analysis at their end, but since they are mass robo-quoting, they would have an extremely difficult time tracing back each contact to the specific quotes.
It is not at all clear if the Palo Alto bogus requester just enjoys driving up the number of impossible quotes, or if the person is collecting quote data in an Excel worksheet for trend analysis, or if the person is using the contacts to get back at competitor lenders, or if just to show Zillow that their system has bugs (or rats)...
I'm convinced that we won't stop seeing bogus quotes until the bogus request issue is under control.

How many hundreds of quotes have been generated from this one bogus request with the use of the "repost" button?
Well Pasa, if you don't know the answer to this, no one likely does...
I downgraded my account today (at least I asked Zillow to downgrade it) This mystery is part of the reason I did so... I have enough to do without having to worry about buggy rats.
