Be sure to get a sellers disclosure on any home you consider purchasing. Go to the town hall, they may have additional information and have someone who knows what to look for take a look in the basement for signs. If homes in the surrounding area get water, chances are this one does too.

Yes, Rahway is a flood prone area. However, each property must be evaluated individually based on its elevation. If a house is in a flood zone, you probably want to stay away. If you have an individual address, let me know and I will provide a flood map by e-mail.

Not sure where sneakykilo got their info from, but there has never been a claim on flood insurance or homeowners insurance for any type of water damage. Some of the houses 1 block away do get water - some very bad - we are far enough away and NEVER flooded in 22 years.

This house is on the Rahway flood map but we have lived there 22 years and NEVER got flooded. Not even 2 weeks ago with 7" of rain when most of Rahway was under water.

Check with locals to see if it floods. I know the area where we moved floods very badly.

This home had major flooding from Ivan..It is built below current flood restrictions.

You can talk to local residents to see if the area has flooded before or check local newspapers for reports of flood damage. FEMA also has an online search by address in the top left corner of the page to show the flood map for the area here. If you are planning to buy a specific house, you can also get a CLUE report here to see if any flood claims have been made in the last 7 years. I think the more information the better. You are wise to ask about the flood risk before you buy since many houses flood each year that are not in designated flood zones.
