Is this a possible scam?

I saw a posting on the site for a rental in a posh Boston residence for 1100/mo.  the response from the owner (this would be a sublet) stated a tale of woe.  I am curious if any other people have questioned this posting as a possible scam before I pursue it.

The listing was:  http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/500-Atlantic-Ave-Boston-MA-02210/2116304877_zpid/

Please advise.

Thank you

usually when you feel the need to ask "is this a scam" it's a pretty safe bet that it is.

People offering a property for rent that are REALLY landlords don't typically have a tale of woe and IF they do you might not want to rent from them as you don't know for sure they are going to keep up the property and mortgage payments etc.

if it looks, feels, smells like a scam...it usually is.

There are others that are reporting someone with the same name on this site and the listed phone number on Zillow is coming up as the main number for the regional US Department of Labor in NY. I would be careful and read the Zillow scam page to look for other red flags.

Do not send any money, provide personal ID information before checking out the person renting the unit and trust your gut. Better safe than sorry.

Here's a link to the Zillow FAQ on scams and internet fraud.   It provides descriptions of a number of red flags to watch out for.

Tales of woe, out of town, money before keys - these are all indicators of a scam.

If you consider it a scam, please report it.  At the bottom of the page click on "report problem with listing" and chose "rental scam".
