Zillow is a public website that pulls data from many different sources to help bring real estate information to the consumer. It is not a Realtor only site nor it is an MLS (multiple listing service). I refer to it as a public opinion portal since anyone can post their comments for others to see. You have to realize that allows answers to be posted by well intended people that maybe really don't know what they are talking about or they may answer the question from another state and the answers in your state may be different (i.e. who typically pays for an appraisal; what type of loans are available for first time buyers; what type of loans are available for low/moderate income buyers; how much earnest money should I put down, etc.).
Real Estate is not a commodity like gold so no two homes are alike. You can't just go to a website for a home like you would for a car (KellyBlueBook.com) to determine it's value. It is a good starting place though.
My advice is to get informed and then make a list of questions to ask a local Realtor.

quite the opposite, the most prolific (and informative) posters are as much enthusiast as they are realtor. one of the greatest things about zillow is the fact that it is the one real-estate site on the web that resists salesman who try to influence your decision to buy rather than helping you to achieve the goals that you set for yourself.

Not at all. Anyone can come to Zillow. Some realtors snob Zillow because they say that it is inaccurate. I'd love to know how accurate those realtors are when they set an asking price. Zillow has its limitations but there is one thing that no one can ignore. People go to Zillow and see things and we all need to know what other people know. It is important for a seller to know that the Zestimate of his/her home because many potential buyers will have gone to Zillow to find it out.

Yes. Now get out! Zillowgoons may track you down and remove some pixels from your new monitor (that's right, they know you just bought a new monitor.)
Admittedly, some comments are not intended for intelligent life forms,
and that alone may attract certain people, and repel others, but the site is open to anyone who gives a hoot about real estate.

Definatley not. It is certainly a useful tool for Realtors to communicate with other Realtors, but it is a great forum for people interested in real estate to ask questions and get market snapshots.

It is a site where people can get information about real estate and hear opinions outside of those promoted by the industry. Many helpful links get posted to information that people can read for themselves from Bloomberg to mortgage journals to market analysts. Some agents feel that Zillow is just for them, but really it is less like Trulia and more of an egalitarian forum open to anyone interested in learning more about real estate.
