I try to respond as soon as I see the request hit my smart phone. As with any business there are times when you're tied up with a client and can not respond as quickly as you would like too or maybe you're in a Closing or driving in heavy traffic or something similiar and can not respond as quickly. But other than some acceptable scenerio, I respond as quickly as I receive the communications.

How long is "so long" in your experience? Are you talking minutes? Hours? Days? Months?

Buyers today expect prompt responses to their serious queries from technology capable agents. I usually respond within an hour. "A day late a dollar short" sums it up well.
