Jonestown, Texas: Secret Hill Country Town at Austin's Edge

Not many know about Jonestown, unless they have explored Lake Travis out to Lago Vista or Marble Falls. Then they have driven through it, but may not have noticed. Jonestown is a tiny town between Cedar Park and Lago Vista. I love living here!

The north shore of the lake is the deeper side, so in drought years we have water closer to the natural shoreline for much longer. And in wet years (like now), we have great swimming, skiing, and sailing that Lake Travis is famous for, plus much better conditions for boats. The traffic into the city is much better than going all the way up Lohman Ford in Lago to get through the one traffic light there; we are already ahead of Lago Vistans headed into Austin, and of course get home much sooner, too. Most of Jonestown is in the Lago Vista Independent School District (LVISD), which is a small district with very high ratings and great teacher-student ratios. We have a couple of restaurants, a biker bar (harking back to the old outlaw days of Jonestown), a library, a few small businesses, and a couple of gas stations. We can head west to Lago Vista for a supermarket, hardware store, etc or into Cedar Park for bigger provision runs if necessary. We have a great free park, Jones Brothers Park, with a free boat launching ramp and a beach area to enjoy a late afternoon swim and picnic. Several times a year, the park is home to great music by well-known local musicians who always enjoy the laid-back Jonestown atmosphere.

We have great houses in the forest areas as well as lakeview and waterfront. I've sold houses out here to folks who have said it reminded them of Colorado and Scotland. It is surprising to come into the serious Hill Country so close outside Austin, and truly the stretch between Cedar Park and Marble Falls is some of the prettiest land in Texas. If you are looking to relocate to the Hill Country but still want access to Austin and all it offers, you should check out Jonestown and Lago Vista!

I couldn't agree more!  I moved to Jonestown about two years ago because it was the closest I could get an affordable home with a view of the lake on a large lot of land. I have friendly neighbors, but they are not close enough to my house to take a away my sense of privacy. It's really a nice little town with a relaxing lake vibe.
