Land in Hilo with unpaid taxes...

I have a client whose parents are both deceased.  His dad bought land in Hawaii about 30 years ago and he now wants to sell it.  The problem is that all he has to prove ownership is a tax bill addressed to his dad showing unpaid taxes for five years.  The property was never transferred into the heirs names, it is still in his father's name.  Should I have him contact a lawyer first in Hawaii to figure out how to get the land transferred to the heirs?
I have a call into his lawyer in Mass to help us figure this out but she has been in and out of town for a while and thought maybe someone on here has dealt with this before.
Thanks!

I would find a real estate attorney ( only )  in Hilo who knows the ins and outs of the local government. This is not going to be easy. Best of luck.
