sweet. How many hits do you have to your website ? Attracted any advertising yet?

This is an ads-free, non-commercial resource at this point (I can afford this); the main idea is to give people as much jobs/layoffs info as possible during these damn crisis days. More info -> better prepared -> better chances to survive. Daily number of unique hosts is hot

sweet. Good luck with that. I remember when they put out a 'lender implosion' site and this reminds me of the same thing. Keep us updated.

My bookmarks are plentiful at this point, but none of them directly cover this topic. Ctrl+D bookmarked. Thanks.

Thanks, Klarek. I'd rather see people are venting their layoff anger at the blog's pages rather that to shoot co-workers like this one: http://layoffblog.com/2008/11/18/siport-shooting-after-lay-off-update-11172008/
Scary, sad story..

hey dude, cool idea! eventually start making money on adsense!
every single change brings an oppurtunity and yours is one! why not provide links like "Patrick.net" where you post "layoff News links" pretty depressing. i heard google already has a layoff tracker or something.

Silent_Observer, Thanks for the link to 'Patrick.net' (I agree, their news are really depressing).
As for "making money with adsense", well.. If I loose my Web 2.0 software engineering job in a layoff, for sure I will be looking for any extra income :) But I do not think I am ready to make ads money at LayoffBlog.com on people's anxiety and fears of their job loss. Speaking frankly, the LayoffBlog is not my first and the only online resource I am running; I have a few others, web technology-related, entertainment-related, etc - they are generating me a little cash. For sure I am doing this wrong from marketing point of view, - I am not a marketing guy by nature.

I don't care if bloggers make money. If their content is good and I want to check out the site every day, they earn it.
david, Nice job!! Admire your reasons for starting blog....admire your view of blog as public service...

Thanks, guys!
Let's start preparing ourselves for the next big economy boost in, say, green renewable energy. Clean water and clean energy - this are the real things, comaring to full-of-crap dot-com shares and bad credits to anyone.

I just had a friend that was laid off at AIG Baker, he was a engineer in the planning department for new commercial buildings. They have put a freeze on all building and he lost his job along with several others that worked there.

Teia93, Sorry to hear that. This is very sad..

A little improvement in initial jobless claims: 543,000 (expected: 537,000).

Wall Street Journal just mentioned LayoffBlog.com in their business technology blog:
http://blogs.wsj.com/biztech/2008/12/01/reviving-f-ed-company/
I did not expect that the subject (layoffs, jobs loss) is _that_ hot these days..

Here is a great read from Bloomberg this morning. 240k more jobs punted in november. They are talking about a 5% contraction in the 4th quarter for the economy.
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aXTWFDfLt8KM&refer=home
They are starting to call this 'The Great Recession' .......
we have been in a recession for 12 months and they suggest the worst isnt over yet. I believe its outsourcing and housing.
Until they deal with those problems it will continue to get worse.

Couldn't agree more Sir Allan - you hit the nail on the head - but I feel we must add one more ingredient - greedy executives who felt they deserved lavish compensation packages at the expense of middle class America.

I 100% agree with Sir Allan

Guys, this might be helpful for some of you..
WallStreetJournal sent me their news tip a couple of days back: they've started a new online project for those managers, who lost their job in a layoff, to tell their stories and possibly find a job.
The project called WSJ: Laid Off and Looking. Check it out:
http://layoffblog.com/2008/12/03/wall-street-journal-launches-laid-off-and-looking-blog/
P.S. I think the project's name ('Laid Off and Looking') could also be shortened to LOL, why not?
