Leaf removal from gutters

hello all, we live in collegeville pa 19426.  when should we get the gutters cleaned?
it's late oct. now, we don't want to pay someone twice. leafs are all over the place 
now.  thanks for any help.

I do the same. I wait until I can't wait anymore and the trees are almost done dropping leaves before I do the final cleaning.

The metal strainers that fit in the downspouts seem to really help the water drain better even if there are a few leaves in the gutter. They are not too much. Here is one (it is upside down being used as a fishing line holder.. Ace hardware has them for about $2 each and they really work.

Ah, what a painful subject. 

I've never been able to get away with a single cleaning when there are lots of leaves and lots of rain.   The goals are two fold:  1.  pristine when all the leaves are off the trees.  2.  No backups in the interim. 

Our house is two story,  ugh, I hate those ladders!   It is at this time of year I see why the gutter guard companies make a bundle for a rather ineffective product.
