i know about normal hedge funds and the economic situation we are in now so I'm thinking this can't be a good idea, what do other Realtors think?

Hi, Teia. It's Marc from RB. A ListingHedge(TM) is not a "hedge fund" like what's found on Wall St. Rather, it's similar to insurance and allows Realtors to offset or "hedge" the risk of marketing a listing.
For example: traditionally, a Realtor spends time and money to represent a seller with the hope of earning a commission when the home sells. A ListingHedge(TM) allows a Realtor to pay a small amount of money at the beginning of the listing period--$300 in the chart you linked to--to ensure they don't lose money when the listing expires.
Selling the home remains a much more profitable outcome, but a ListingHedge(TM) reduces the financial "sting" of expired or withdrawn listing.
