Whether they are local or not doesn't really matter in my opinion. Most of this stuff is handled via email/fax anyhow. Look through your quotes, see which ones appear to have the best rate/fees, get Good Faith Estimates from them and pick 2 or 3 from that and speak with the broker/lenders. Go with your gut on who you felt most comfortable with us.
