Modified lease after signing

Our landlord modified our lease AFTER we signed it...there's writing in pen all over the place where they just added stuff. One of the things Put in there was about letting people in to see it while we're still living here. She is not a realtor and she is not selling the home...this is for the next people to rent here.

Here are some contact information related to Illinois renter's rights.

I hope you have a copy of the lease as you signed it before the handwritten changes.  In  my experience as a landlord in another state, handwritten changes are acceptable only if initialed and dated by both the landlord and tenant.

If you have a copy of the original lease then any changes are not valid, BUT the issue is how confrontational do you, or will your landlord be if/when he wants to follow any of the changes he added.
You and the landlord need to deal with each other for the next year so it's a difficult call.

I have a feeling it will get ugly, i do have proof tho...We gave her written and dated 30 day notice. one of the things on there she had written in was the day we were moving out which was dated the next day. Also my fiance has her initials (as she is on the lease) above a rent change because her brother moved in..the initials are also dated before some of the changes...Idk what to do she has 3-4 people a day coming in here her husband walks around the property at like 5 am...since we gave her our 30 days its like we can't get any peace...my fiance took 3 hours off work today because the landlord said she was coming in to show it rather we were here or not....any advice? it just seems like as renters they get to do whatever they like.

oh ya and we never initialed any changes or were aware of them untill we got a copy of it today...we didn't even have a copy until today even after asking several times.

If you've given 30 d notice, in all states  the landlord does indeed have the right to show prospective tenants the property with proper notice.   You can request this occur during reasonable hours as it is not an emergency.

The reason for the notice is to help your privacy.

It is inconvenient and can be irritating, I absolutely agree   If you wish to block views for prospective future tenants you are financially punishing the landlord.   Perhaps you could compensate by offering another month's rent, or volunteering to giving up your security deposit.

already gave up the deposit...told her she could have it...she's just not a very nice lady...we had 3 people invade our privacy today in succession from 3-5P in which my fiance lost out on 3 hours of pay so we could be here for it.

Irritating isn't the word...more like personally embarrassing and degrading... I mean this is where I live..where i do my laundry, make dinner, bath my children...all of the things that are supposed to be private and i just had some one I don't even know walking through here like we didn't even exist.

but there is one thing i can do about it...since i can't stop it...i can at least stop interacting with the landlord all together...lol...or maybe i'll walk around in my birthday suit all day haha

Ah, the joys of renting.   Your birthday suit will be quite entertaining.

Selling a house is just as much fun, but there is more money riding on the situation.  (And yes, someone did walk in once when I was in the shower.  They called 30 seconds for an appointment before opening the door and decided because I didn't answer that I wasn't home.)

Only you can tell us if you are still in the lease period.  When does/did the lease run out?  Usually if you've gone beyond the lease period, the terms still apply unless you've got signed documentation from the landlord.  30 d notice does not cancel a lease.

You are lucky that she didn't charge you April rent if you gave notice on the 3rd.

May you have great happiness in your new home.
