That is fine and dandy, but all the information put into the MyEstimate tool is no longer reflected in the Zestimate..... We are currently negotiating a purchase agreement for the sale of our home and just got a call from the buyers agent that our home value has dropped $34,000 overnight. The buyers are now considering pulling out based on the ZILLOW website. Please get this remedied ASAP - I don't think I need to explain the importance of this and the damage your site is causing me.
Thank you,

Zestimate and Myestimate are two separate entities (input to the Myestimate didn't change the Zestimate, only the "myestimate" number). The change in your value is most likely due to a change in the Zestimate algorithms that happened late yesterday.
Please read this FAQ

I beg to differ - Home improvements placed on the MyEstimate tool most definitely are reflected in the Zestimate - maybe not right away, but eventually. Refer to create your own estimate - "Updates to your home facts will be factored into your homes Zestimate" , " If your Zestimate does change, it may take some time before its reflected on the site"
So if public record is incorrect so is the Zestimate.... Corrected information is obviously not being accounted for.

The new Zestimates still use owner provided data on baths, beds, sqft, lot size, # stories, etc.
The remodels like granite counters have never been used in the Zestimates.
Your changes to the sqft etc should not have been affected by the estimate revision. If they were, put the corrections back.
It typically did take 8 weeks for the sqft changes and #baths changes to affect the Zestimate. With the software change, it implies it will be less time; but at this point it is not really clear.
The Zestimates should not affect any offers or contracts at all. If it did, they really shouldn't be buying in the first place.
And if the buyer's agent believes that the value dropped overnight due to a change in calculation method, the agent must be a Realtor® and member of NAR, meaning "Not Able to Reason".
Besides, they already probably have an appraisal contingency, so if the agent is saying they want to back out now, they better provide more documentation. If they want to pay $30k less, and thus void the contract, you can ask for $60k more. It still is going to be an issue of how it appraises, not what a machine estimate says.
If they like machine estimates without site visits so much, why don't you send them to eppraisal.com ... they seem to be estimating about 40% or more high presently.

Hi James,
It will be a least a few months before this comes back. Hopefully some time in the fall.

Yes, Zillow should fire several of the telemarketers, and hire at least 10 more programmers. Even though telemarketers bring in revenue, the "business" is the "website", and it is clear that 5 programmers just cannot keep up with the website needs.

Certainly not the same ol same ol for me. I was wearing my new hat when I posted earlier.

Unfortunately for Consumers/Property owners imo it seems Zillow only has the same ol same ol Hat
The "My Estimate" has been unavailable for months and.... will still be unavailable for months
Back in April hopefully...Woo Whooo!

It's April - get it together!
Perhaps that's another question for Stan Humphries to explain the timeline for the re-introduction of the My Zestimate tool. No one else at Zillow seems interested in this anymore and it probably falls with his area of responsibility anyways.

What's the use of estimates when owners can't put in some minor details a buyer might be interested in like a new $20000 roof; a new $12000 furnace? I know, details.....details!!!!

"Temporary" means different things to different people under different conditions...
South Pasadena has "temporarily" been blocking the completion of the 710 freeway for over 40 years now. The discussion now is one or two 55 ft diameter bored "tunnels" 50 feet below grade to the top, but the state is still evaluating the impacts and potential funding. Many state it will completely clog the 210 freeway the day it opens, if they ever build it at all.

Got it...so Temporarily Unavailable for year is OK cause "Temporary" means different things to different people
So this hasn't been mis-leading or BS or smoke..it's been a misunderstanding of what "Temporary" means
Apologies..I will endeavor to become more familiar with Zillowspeak
Sorry Zillow..you're doing a great job with this "Temporary" time out for the My Estimate while you improve it

I just have to laugh at that! It has been standard procedure on the website for so long, that it doesn't seem to mean much to me. In summer 2007 they announced they would have revised estimating methods in place by September 2007, then October 2007, then November 2007, then "soon"... I think it was implemented January 2008. I thought it was worth the wait; but many others didn't seem to think it was any better. But it at least addressed two concerns that I had expressed, mostly related to long held properties in California affected by Proposition-13.
Obviously, Zillow has given us no clue what they are working on for this major "my estimate" revision. I'm thinking it will be a database of potential upgrade features, similar to RS-Means estimating books. But since they never said, my "guess" can be entirely off base. Regardless of what they are working on, I think it is a much bigger endeavor than they could have ever anticipated. Sort of like all Space Explorations projects tend to take twice as long and cost more than twice as much as original anticipated.
And every time there is a website issue, the programmers get pulled of of the implementation of the "my estimate" revisions and put on the immediate "fix" needed. (Same in many other small businesses).
To me, it is still an indication that they haven't prioritized hiring enough programmers to meet their present needs.
And if the "my estimate" is going to use the "Zestimate" as a baseline? There there are a myriad of other issues, such as the intentional gaming that is still being done on numerous properties.

Actually, I'm not "waiting"; I gave up on the "my estimate" being available in the next 2 years back in summer 2011. And never found it helpful because those using it tended to game the numbers, and those trying to get good numbers didn't know what factors to put in for the improvements.
Cheers? You have the wrong party. Only "occupy" people and "sales agents" do that. I don't even attend sports events because I don't like cheers and won't participate in them and find them extremely annoying, and way too loud for me.
