My Land assessment is too high

Profile picture for HouseNut1
It jumped from $40,000 to $63,000 in less than 2 years. Every lot in the subdivision is assessed the same, no matter what size lot you have. I could never sell an empty lot over here for $63,000!

You should certainly go to your town assesor and apply for the greivance procedure. If you'd like guidance through the process I would be happy to help steer you in the right direction.

You may want to grieve it with the assessment office.

Assessments are the local tax assessors domain.  Real Estate agents have nothing to do with setting assessments.  If you believe yours is too high or has been inflated unfairly then you should be able to greive it.  In Tompkins NY there is a process that property owners can go through in order to grieve their assessments.  Look into your County's assessment department and see what process they may have.
Good luck.
