Oh crap. One side doesn't stay flush with the wall because of variation of the wall. They had to make a new template and I won't receive product until next Tuesday. They left what was fabricated as a temporary solution. They don't show these glitches on HGTV.

Ohhh man!! So close then to have it taken away.
I am not a patient human at all.
I would be bummed having to wait another week. I am sure it will be perfect once its in!

Yes my house is imperfect. I would sell it but I understand the real estate market isn't so good! Stay tuned for more excuses from my contractor on why the orginal template was so far off. Also, stay tuned to see if they can pull all this together in one week for me to cook Thanksgiving dinner.
Now I must go take a bubble bath to help me cope with all this nonsense!

You are RIGHT! They DONT show *real* life stuff on HGTV (or timelines!!!)! Thank you for noticing and bringing that to everyone's attention. While HGTV has done a lot to make better design more desirable for more people, they have really done a number on client expectations. Things arent done in a week and projects cost more than $1,000 a room!

I bet a lot of those shows leave with duct tape holding things together and a post-it to call a local contractor.

My contractor found several other mistakes in the countertop and the whole thing is being redone. What a waste!

Be glad the contractor didn't try to "salvage the situation" and devise a way to "make it work". I'm much happier with a contractor who says "this is wrong, we need another week to make it right" vice "this is wrong, but with just a little effort we'll save it and you'll hardly notice the difference".

In this situation the countertop company wants to make the contractor happy for return business. Here is an advantage to having the contractor rather than a homeowner contact the company.

That is why you hire the professionals. It's our job to deal with mistakes and try to problem solve the solution. I had a countertop company installing Cambria which is like Silestone. Anyway they dented the $435.00 bar sink as I watched them do it. Later they denied doing the damage. I ended up purchasing a new sink for the homeowner because of the situation. The bad part was it took 21 days for the new sink to arrive and I had to pay the plumber another $200 for a trip charge to install the new sink. In the end the customer was happy, that's was my goal in that situation. In many situations contractors can save customer's money by finding problems before the occur, and dealing with matters like this.

My counters are here!
