I am surprised that you are in escrow and have not been guided through the process of selecting insurance yet.
Yes, you should make sure that the property is insurable (and at a premium that you are satisfied with) before you release all your contingencies.
Yes, you should get several quotes from different insurance agents, but, not all quotes are the same. It has been my experience that the cheapest policy quote is not always the best. Truly understanding the Insurance Policy you are considering can take a considerable amount of time. I would recommend asking questions until you are satisfied before you sign.
