My husband and I have bad credit and cannot find a place to rent. Is there any hope?

We were not raised by credit conscious parents and just learned of credit scores a few weeks ago when looking for somewhere to move. Do we have any options?

Hello,

I posted the answers below for someone with a similar question.

1.  Be up front about your credit when filling out an application.  Tell the next landlord in advance.  They will appreciate your honesty.
2.  Try to offer additional rent up front (if you have the ability).  This will show your good faith.
3.  Include a letter or 2 of reference instead of just listing references.
4.  Provide all of your pay stubs, employment letters, etc. up front and try to stand out above any other tenants.

You really have to try it all in this fast past market!

Best wishes,

Yes, there's hope. Talk to a local lender and see where you are, need to me and how to get there. Ask questions, take notes and formulate a soild game plan with said lender or credit counselor.

Have a BEAUTIFUL night.

There is always hope to find a great home and financing for it.. If you cannot buy, renting for a period of time will allow you to accumulate savings and find the right home at the right price. Working with an experienced agent always helps!

You may have the most luck looking for properties where the owner is renting it directly (versus through a property management company).  They may be more likely to work you with.  Paying an extra month's rent in advance or an extra security deposit may make help.  Don't waste your time in thinking they won't notice your credit.  Just be upfront about it- and you can find something.
