We lived there for 10 yrs. and loved it. We moved away in 2001 but still visit. It was a little restrictive for growing kids as there are only a few activities available outside of school activities. Ours were involved in gymnastics and karate. The prisons were never a problem for us. If you like a slower pace and nice weather, Canon City is a good place to look at.

Thanks, Ciel50 for your input. We heard about this attitude thing from someone we met on the river walk. They also thought local shop/merchants had a take it or leave it attitude and not up to speed on smiling and may I help you to people who want to spend money with them. We are also from Wisconsin/Illinois area. Thanks again!

My Dad has lived in Canon City (moved from Illinois) almost 20 years. The town is very quaint but, over the years, he has complained about the visitors to the prisons. They bring a certain attitude and I think the locals get tired of the transient population. He has said that every time voter approval is sought for another prison, it always gets voted in because of the revenue it brings in. Health care is pretty good -- good hospital in Pueblo. There is definitely one MD to avoid. Weather is very dry and hot in summer and can get very cold in winter. Colorado, of course, has many attractions so there is an unending variety of things to do. Hope this helps!
My wife and I are thinking of moving to Canon City, CO. Does anyone have any input?
Are there things to do for people 59 + early retirees. How is health care?
Thanks!
