Neighborhood Nicknames

Most Manhattan neighborhoods have nicknames; for example FIDI for Financial District, NOHO North of Houston St. etc. Hurricane Sandy has spawned a new one; SoPo, for South of Power. Hopefully it won't be a long lasting name.

Kind of funny, but mostly sad to me, as someone with family there that lost a lot.  Hope the city recovers quickly, it truly is a remarkable place, there is no where else in the world like it!

Hey Brad, it's just an abbreviated name used during a fluid situation. Many of us in the city lost our offices and homes especially in Staten Island. Anybody interested in offering assistance or aid can find out how at;

"Chumbo" combining the names of Chinatown and its high-brow Brooklyn neighbor across the Manhattan Bridge, Dumbo. Located south of East Broadway, also known as a Chinatown district called Two Bridges. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203833104577070490365094740.html?mod=wsj_share_tweet_bot
