You can find lots of information about San Francisco, including Demographics information in our local pages. Check the sub pages by selecting the different sections on the left side of the page.

As to the source of our San Francisco neighborhoods, we built these using a number of online sources, including other Real Estate sites, Wikipedia and local city, government websites.

I have heard that San Francisco has something like 63 distinct neighborhoods, but I can't name a source for that. The San Francisco Association of Realtors has work with input from the community to develop an accurate map of all the neighborhoods in the city which reflects local consensus.
The best online link I could find for this map is here: http://www.sfarmls.com/docs/areamaps.htm But you can get a paper copy of the map from the San Francisco Association of Realtors that will show the exact street boundaries for each neighborhood.
Hope that helps!

Neighborhood boundaries for San Francisco, and sharing demographic info with student researchers
I'm a student researcher at Stanford and am currently working on a project looking at community participation in San Francisco's neighborhoods. For my project, I need to know how many distinct neighborhoods there are in San Francisco and how these neighborhood areas/identities are defined and bounded.
So I was wondering how Zillow came up with its list of neighborhood boundaries in San Francisco?
I was also wondering if Zillow would be amenable to sharing some of the demographic data for each SF neighborhood with student researchers like myself. This research is not conducted for profit, and I would be completely happy to not only cite Zillow but also sign an agreement to only use the data for this one project and not share it.
Would appreciate any advice and input from a Zillow rep.
Thank you.
