Our name is on the deed but my dad's name is on the mortgage. We pay the mortgage. Do we qualify?

Do we qualify for the 8000 tax credit? We just bought our first house and assume all the responsibilities which include paying the mortgage. Our name is on the deed but in order to get the loan my dad's name is on the mortgage. Can we still claim the credit?

The advise to check with a CPA is excellent. If your name is on the mortgage and your father is a co-signer, then you should be able to get the credit. If you are not listed on the mortgage documents I do not beleivbe you will be able to get the tax credit.

Here is the Government Site that has a questions and answer page. You may find out there.
You would be best advised to talk to a CPA, they know ALL the rules.
