Our realtor says we have np say in picking a contractor for radon mitigation. Is this true?

We are buying a home with radon above state levels. The seller agreed but our realtor says we will get a receipt at closing and that's it.

How can someone agree to getting something fixed and we have 0 say in who does it? How is the quality determined.

If you would like to have some say in the process, on the post inspection addendum where you state requested repairs, be sure to include that the work is to be done by a professional, licensed contractor, to be agreed upon by both parties.

Radon is a common problem in PA as well.  If we require the seller to install a radon mitigation system it is the sellers choice who does the installation.

Usually a follow up test is conducted after it is installed and you should be able to get a copy of it. You are entitled to ask for it.  That should have been included in writing when the final reply to inspection was crafted and agreed upon.

If it is working properly you will be able to determine that at the time of walk through. If it is not working properly then you take the issue to the closing table and have your attorney work it out before you close.

All of these issues need to be addressed in the post inspection addendum. You can either take a cash credit upon closing to complete the repairs once you own the home, ask the seller to make the repairs using a "qualified/certified contractor or request they use a specific contractor. Either way it MUST be in the post inspection addendum however you choose to handle it. Your agent likely just assumed you wanted it remedied & didn't think you wanted control over who completed the work.

Correction: You agreed to purchase a home that has been professionally mitigated as per your request on the inspection addendum.

Find out when the system is being installed and be there "briefly" to meet the installer and have him explain what his system does and the guidelines it meets. A win is a win.

Typically, who ever is paying for the item to be fixed would be the one to pick out the contractor. However, everything is negotiable and you can def. choose who does the work if you want but the seller would have to agree to it as well. 

I would make sure that your removal of contingency states that a licensed contractor has to do the work and that you would like to have another inspection done after the work is done if you so choose. 

If you feel like your realtor is missing something or being misleading then you can always go talk to there broker.

Think of it this way. Let's say you have a car you're selling and a buyer takes it to his mechanic and that mechanic says it needs a new transmission. Are you going to allow the potential buyer to decide who puts in the transmission in your car and hope the buyer still buys it after you pay for it? I doubt it. It's still their house and you could still walk away and not buy it. Once it is done you can get another radon test done, at your expense, to prove it was mitigated properly.

If you wish to have control over the contractors, you can take a credit at closing and do the work after closing, or pay the difference between their contractor of choice and your contractor of choice.     You can request a new radon test to confirm that radon mitigation installed is working as planned.   That is the most important, IMHO.
