Also don't forget the property is going to need insulation. In the past I used blow-in insulation or cellulose-to save on the gas or oil. Love old homes!

I would be concerned about asbestos, lead and whether the oil tank was above ground or not (especially if the house was not on county water). Does it have a septic tank, if so, was it properly maintained? Other than that I agree with Sunnyview.

I like 1960's plans. They tend to have good sized rooms, are traditional with more flexible floor plans than 1950's houses and nice sized yards. You can update them to look like modern custom homes in many cases without adding square footage or expensive additions.
