...and still in the market. I am looking for a home in the Pasadena/Altadena area in the 1.5 million range, but for this kind of money, I expect at least a newly updated home, at least 3000 to 4000 sq. ft., granite, top of the line stainless steel appliances, 5 bedrooms 3 to 4 bathrooms and in a good neighborhood.

One more thing. You should check out the fact that this house is exceptionally well priced. Check out the going rate for comparable properties in the neighborhood. The average price per sq. ft. is in the $400+ per sq. ft. and this house is at $358 per sq.ft.

Property taxes are based on your purchase price at approx. 1.25% annually. They are due December 10 and April 10, i.e. split into two installments.
When the home was purchase in 1997, it was a small 2 bedroom, 1 bath. The current owners moved out for two years and completely remodelled and expanded the house completing the work in 2003. The house is now 2918 sq. ft., 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, familyroom, office, new kitchen, baths and systems. Hopefully that explains the discrepency.
