Protest property taxes in South Houston

Hi: I am getting ready to protest my property taxes in zip code 77578. My subdivision is just over 1 year old and i need to find comparables within the area of recent homes sales for 2010 , however just one home sold in my neighborhood recently and I would like to include that number in my protest. At what point does the sale of that home become public information, if it closed  the 1st week in June, and where do I find this information? How do I go about collecting the comparables in my area? I was told it is not done by zip code. Thanks Ann

Hi Ann,

For protest purposes, you can use comparables up to 1 year old.  You can gety the comparables from a Realtor.  I am sure that you can get that as a courtesy.

You won't be able to find them on Zillow since TX is a non disclosure state and sales prices are not public.
