Question about condo rules against in-unit washer/dryer (DC)

Hello. Prospective first-time buyer here. A significant number of the condo units I am interested in prohibit washer/dryers. Many offer common laundry facilities and a good number of them are subsidized. I have two questions about this. First, is this fairly common in DC? For background, I am most interested in Cathedral Heights and Cleveland Park. Perhaps this has something to do with the age of the buildings in those areas. Second, how significant would the absence of in-unit washer/dryer and rules against their installation likely be for resale? Since I'm struggling so much with the issue, I assume it would have a negative impact on the sales process. Ultimately, if this is a common issue, then I can tolerate it (however disheartening).

Thank you!

You see what is happening to you, will happen to the next buyer, etc...As a first time buyer, you would profit from the assistance of a buyer agent, do you have one?  The agent can guide you to those condos that either have or allow for w/d  Good luck!

The buildings that do not allow in unit W/D probably are not equipped with the proper electrical, plumbing and venting required and would require major renovation.

Since none of the units in the complex have that feature, selling your unit will not be any more difficult than any other unit in the complex.  However, should the complex next door have in unit systems, they we have a desirable feature yours does not.
