RENTER SEEKING ADVICE ON HOW TO GET PROPERTY INFO. ON OWNER

I need help in how I can find out who is the documented owner of the property where I rent.  The city inspector dropped by to notify me that my dwelling was not built legally and needs to be demolitioned.  They also told me that the person whom I thought was the owner, wasn't the owner.  The "owner" that I know told me that there are two banks that own the property, and for some reason, he isn't responsible for any "violations" on the property.   HELP ME PLEASE

Visit your local hall of records and view a copy of the deed that has been recorded for the property. It will list the rightful owner of the home.

From what you are describing, your point of contact is renting out your unit(s) that do not belong to him and/or he does not have legal authority to represent the property.  On rare occasions, a property gets foreclosed, it takes the bank a while to process the file and get the property on the market (for sale).  During this process, someone in the area that knows the property may market it, without right or permission.  If this is the case, you do not have a legally binding agreement/lease, you do not owe rent to this person, and you could be found to be trespassing on the property.  I would find a local real estate agent you know and ask them to find the owner information via a title rep (the agent will know what a title rep is and what they can offer as information for you).  Depending on the findings, you may need to contact a landlord/tenant attorney promptly.

I'm sorry to hear you are in such a difficult situation.  I'd go to the county records to pull up the owner's name.   Often this is available on line.

If the city is saying the place needs to be demolished, I'd start looking around for a new place to live.   What is your lease status, or are you renting month to month?
