Real Estate taxes: Owner occupied discount?

I live in the south end and believe I pay a lesser amount in real estate taxes on my condo because I live in it. Zillow indicates a much higher amount than what I actually pay annually. Is this true in other neighborhoods such as South Boston?

Some towns have the "residential exemption', some do not.  Go to the particular town website, or call the town clerc.  It is not a percentage of the tax bill, it is a fixed amount that gets substracted from the assessed value - before the tax rate gets applied.  It's the same whether the property is assessed $200k or $5M.  This amount can change every year, as it is voted by the selectmen.  There are other exemptions also, varying from town to town: seniors, veterans, disabled, etc.  (pls click on the thumbs-up icon if this answer was helpful to any reader)

Boston has a Residential Exemption, but I think you can only apply for it at one point during the year. Zillow might either be averaging the taxes for the niegborhood, or using the assessors information which might be to show the non-resident tax rate. Whenever I have had a client purchasing in Boston, the listing sheet will show the higher tax amount.

I'm not sure about condos, but I get a 5% break on property taxes on my multifamily because I'm owner occupied.  However its a town by town thing.  My town is trying discourage absentee landlords, by rewarding those who are owner occupied.  You should be able to find out at your town/city hall's assessors office, or by calling ot using their website.
