I need to relocate to California and we need to sell our house. Up till a week ago we thought we could have sold for more then we owe, but now neighbors have decided to put home on market for nearly 20K less then we owe. What do we do? We don't have the money to cover that, nor are we under any hardship to be able to do a short sale (other than my job moving and me not being able to find anything local).

Talk with your lender. It is quite possible that your job moving and no job locally will qualify as hardship. There are so many mystery factors, it doesn't hurt to ask.
