and yes i before i did my research i replied ;luckily my husband caught it and says lets go to a local Realtor and talk to them being it had military re locator listed as agent ( and yes the Realtor has the keys this is a scam )

Find attached the pictures and the lease agreement, I want you to review it and if okay with you, you sign, scan and email a copy of the signed so that I will sign and include the hard copy in the package to be sent to you.

You need to pay Zillow a fee to advertise your home or contact a local realtor to find out how you can get it on the mls. When you do have renters, you need to do a background credit check and a criminal check. If you are going to be in the UK, I would suggest you hire a rental company to take care of the place for you, check on it, collect the monthly checks and to supervise maintenance when those issues come up.

Thank you for sharing - we've had a few of these scams pop up locally and the police have been pulled in. Exterior photos are easy for a scammer to provide - whether they get them online or just snap them from the curb. Generally online info is helpful to them because then they can seem to detail the home with authority. All very creepy.
Anytime you are asked to send detailed info and most importantly any movement of monies, be watchful. The best way to consider properties that are legitimately for rent is to work with those listed with a broker. You then will also have the benefit of a professional involved in providing guidance on the lease and flow of monies.

We wish that there was a better way to stop people like this from taking advantage of the public, but until we can find a better way, sharing your experience is the best way to help others. With Jacksonville being a military market, we are especially susceptible, because of the constant coming and going of service members. Often times, the 'property owner' will say that they are military and that they got restationed or that they are missionaries doing a mission in another country. The advice that I give to you, that you can also give to your friends, is don't give money to someone for a house that you can't gain access to to preview. I wrote a blog about rental scams in the Jacksonville area that I encourage you to read and share with your friends. I'm glad that you guys were savvy enough to catch this!

This particular scam is much more likely on Craig's list than it is here, but if you see such a listing on Zillow, be sure to use the "report a problem with listing" button on the home details page so that Zillow can remove the listing. With only 300 employees and over 100 MILLLION home details pages on Zillow, there is no way the Zillow staff can screen these problems without the help of the site visitors. Also, the FBI is interested in reports on such activity.
Since so many of those scams are indicated as coming from London, perhaps Zillow can set up electronic filters to look for such things. But then it will just shift to a different country. Still, Zillow recommends never sending anyone any money and dealing with the owner or agents directly or via your agent. I second that! Thank you CarrieMarkle for taking the time to warn others and post the email address and contacts. Many people have ended up on Zillow from google searches and avoided other scams like this. It is a great way to help others.

Hello! I was looking into your house on Rentals.com and came across the poncepaige@yahoo.com email. I'm upset that it's a scam but if this house is legitly up for rent, I am very interested. I am getting married soon. We are moving to Jacksonville because my soon-to-be husband is stationed at Camp Lejeune. We became very excited about this house when we found out about it. So hopefully, I'm talking to the right person now in order to find out more details. All of these replies have me confused and I'm not sure if the house is still on the market? or it shows the Realtor name and i have found if Google it it will give me her direct email and number and i can just go from there got aother scam this time they posed as the Realtor the Realtors name was Stephanie Ford in the email they said they were the owner Ford Stephanie and sadly the letter was exactly the same except emails and names im just kinda shocked

people do it was all over the news a lady in California went to jail for this exact thing :P not everyone is older and wiser alot of us are first time buyers looking for a home :P ie meeee:)

This almost happened to my boyfriend and I as well. Thanks to your post, we knew instantly it was a rental scam. It sounded to good to be true anyways! Thanks for sharing your experience. Thankfully we didn't send any money either!

I almost became victim to the same scam! The alarms went off in my head when they went into so much detail with their email. Thank gosh for my intuitiveness! Mine was from j.graft181@yahoo.com (Jeannette Graft) for a property at 2105 Ashton Dr, Roswell GA, 30076. The subdivision is extremely nice and the houses there easily rent for $1400+/month and this "owner" was only asking for $1000/month for this property and that INCLUDES utilities AND internet??? I should have KNOWN that was too good to be true! The lesson learned here is that if something SOUNDS too good to be true....it probably IS!

People are idoits!! I found the house that I thought was perfect for me. I emailed who I thought was the owner, many emails!! I even told them that I needed proof and that I wanted to see the place. They kept saying I assure you this is not a scam. I just couldn't see sending them $1600 without them even calling me. How can you judge character by an email???? When I found this post I copied it and sent an email back to the people and said does this look familiar??? LOL The nerve of some people!!!
