Unfortunately, this is a problem that is becoming more prevalent. As a real estate broker, I have called many listing that my client's have found somewhere online and it is nothing but a scam. What these individuals do is post a house for lease on some web site. Then they request a deposit before showing the house or in order to get keys. The reality is that this person has no ownership or right to lease this house and just disappears with the money. Using a professional Realtor will help Landlords and Tenants avoid falling victim to these type of scams.
