(I'm not a financial adviser) but if I understand the question correctly you are looking to shelter a profit from a stock gain by investing into Real Estate? The only way I'm aware of doing something like this would be to transfer your IRA, 401k or investment vehicle into a Self Directed IRA. Most people have never even heard of a Self Directed IRA and many Financial planners don't know how to set one up (or care to) because they don't make profits on them. With a Self-Directed IRA you are in charge. You can buy and sell Real Estate and defer any taxes as long as you are doing everything INSIDE the Self-Directed IRA. I'm not an expert by any means, but a good place to find out more info is www.irallcdoctor.com (you don't need to buy anything) but it gives you some good info to see if it's right for you.
