Seminole Heights Description

We are a tree-shaded gem nestled in the heart of Tampa, providing tranquil relief from the heavily-trafficked thoroughfares that border us. Those stately old bungalows that you see being maintained and restored date back to the early 1900s. Some of these homes are included in our National Register and local Historic Districts to ensure their preservation for generations to come. While we take great pride in our history, our present and future are of paramount importance to us. Quote - Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association.

I would like to add this about Old Seminole Heights, it is filled with wonderful people and places to step into.  There is a local hairdresser that has touched many hearts in her years of service, an interesting soul with a spectacular history.  At local eateries you can enjoy neighborhood conversation and super eats. Owners take time to get to know their patrons, often expressing their wit and knowledge of Tampa.  A local Church has long been a gathering place for the weary Christian seeking hope.  Every Christmas Eve neighborhood families worship,  and upon closing of services folks step out onto the stately steps with candles in hand to sing carols, which can be heard if one is sitting on a porch near by.  Across from the church is a barber shop that portals you to a time gone by. There is also an antiquarium book store that is new to the community, providing a place to sit and browse books.  What would a neighborhood be without a coffee shop?  This one added a tribute in front of the parking lot, in brick, to Seminole Heights. The grocery store seems to be another meeting place for neighbors too, catching up on the latest talk.  Seminole Heights has schools, churches, grocery, and parks, to name a few, within walking distance.  Nearby... a zoo, parks, malls, theaters and art galleries, etc. It is centrally located and a hop and skip from downtown - or anywhere in Tampa for that matter.   The established trees and gardens are a delight to the eyes.  It truly is a wonderful space... one that will be missed as I am relocating.

All of that is so true. My husband and I are hoping to buy a larger home, but we do not want to leave the Seminole Heights area for all of the reasons you've mentioned above. Many can't see past the main streets over crowded with used car lots and run down store-fronts, but if you turn onto one of the neighborhood streets or take a drive by the river or by one of the S.H. area parks you'll clearly see why residents love the area. It seems like we are many miles away from what could be considered the "uglier" parts of Florida, Hillsbourough and Nebraska Avenues, when really we are just 5 mins from Downtown, Ybor, and other attractions and amenities. We shop and dine in many of the local places and we always see people we know when we are out and about. Our home is old and needs some work, but we love it and we love the neighborhood.
