I had a friend that just short sold his property last month and received $5k from his lender at closing to help with move out expenses. There is legislation being kicked around right now that is aimed at improving this process. It includes timelines for lenders to follow and it will provide incentives to lenders to make the process easier. Find an agent in your area who has actually closed some short sales. Ask them for references from previous clients.

Short selling a property does not cost the seller anything. The lender (bank) that holds the mortgage on the property is responsible for paying all Realtor commissions. Please contact a Realtor who can help walk you though the short sale process.
