I agree with Maria and Eric—a mental health facility shouldn't be your deciding factor or make a difference as to whether or not you choose that home.  Do your due diligence, walk the neighborhood on different days and times, check the local crime stats if you desire. Based on your investigation you will have a good feel for the area and your decision will be clear.

First of all, I believe the proper reference would be "Psychiatric" Medical Center or Facility. Secondly, it should make no difference whatsoever, and Maria raises more relevant considerations. And finally, to my peers who very simply suggest you move on to other properties because this facility is in the area: SHAME ON YOU!

I would not make a decision pnthat point alone. What else is around, how are the other homes and the neighborhood in general.

If it were me, I would not purchase next to a mental hospital.

That is a very personal decision.  If you like the home and location, the mental hospital is another business.   It would not sway me one way or another.   I'd do my due diligence on the home just as if it were buried deeply miles from any business, or next to a school or any other choice.
