Place your home on the market for rental. You may be surprised by what the market rent is in your area. Although you may have been losing money on a cash-flow basis, once you factor in your income tax savings, the reduced principal balance on your loan, and the current market rent you are probably operating at a profit. Now is probably the worst time to sell your home. There are fewer people participating in the market, and the inventory that is in the market is mostly distressed (short sales, foreclosures). These factors are keeping values down, but they are relatively short term issues. In time, normal inventory transactions will return and you will see home values rise again
