Slab Concrete vs. Structural Wood Floor in Colorado Basements...

Can any agents out there point me to a good resource for comparing/contrasting these different approaches to foundation construction in our expansive-soil-prone areas?

See http://jeffersonconservationdistrict.org/biochar.html.  The soil test determines how the foundation is engineered.

I don't have a resource other than construction background.  Slab Concrete is a fantastic way to go as long as you go deeper, ad a medium that will drain water appropriately, pour it nice and thick and make sure you keep all the water you can from going towards foundation.  But structural wood floors are nice as well because the house can move a little and not affect things.  They will often have floating walls, etc...  I think I would talk to a few contractors to see what they think....preferabley someone who has built both. Hope that helps.   Jay Feaster  [link removed by moderator]

Wood rots. Concrete cracks. I think cracking is preferable to rotting long term.
