Social Networking Group "Nextdoor" Brings Communities Together

Have you heard or joined your neighborhood social networking site called "nextdoor".  It's a neighborhood on-line group that helps support crime and safety communication between neighbors in specific neighborhoods.  It also has other functions for other social outreaches such as, garage sales, upcoming neighborhood events, lost pets, etc.  It has become a big hit in our neighborhood for keeping in touch with eachother for crime and safety issues that may arise from time to time.  Check it out.  Just search "nextdoor" on your computer browser and follow the directions to see if your neighborhood has already set-up a site.  It's sort of a new way of "neighborhood watch program".

We use Neighborhoodlink.com instead, and have been doing so for well over a decade, and 90% of our neighbors don't have Email nor internet services, and don't want E-mail nor internet services, and really don't care about "social media" in the slightest.   It is just a nuisance and inconvenience.

The local city also provides us with a "neighborhood connections" office, which assists with all kinds of city issues and meeting logistics....

It is definitely not a "neighborhood watch" program of any kind.  "Neighborhood watches" are run out of the Police departments, not out of other city offices nor local community efforts.  They create fear and suspicion rather than building trust, bridges, and relationships.

Very good article, bringing together some upcoming neighbourhood events. It's helpful to have an  insight into the things that's happening  in out neighbourhood. We realize the value of these kinds of sites only when an untoward incidence happens to us.
