The moderately wealthy already have a sneaky tax that very few are aware of: Federal Estate Tax. It is a whopper and many families, wealthy or not, have to pay unless they plan and scheme with their estate lawyer and other advisors. It is double taxation . . .

Don't worry Tammy. I don't think that will pass Congress. Unless ofcourse Obama wins the election then it could be a possibilty.
what is this tax you speak of greg?
The IRS should be banned. Flat tax, please.

That's crazy Jenn.....Your'e a democrat in favor of a flat tax? Wow. You just went up a couple rungs in my book!
I think CPA's/tax preparers must have a really powerful lobby. They are the only ones that benefit from these ridiculous tax laws. If there is only one rate, there is no way to escape it either...

Wheres Tom? Didn't he lock in his deals because the rates were going up? Yeah, not so much. Already got 2 posts for improvements. Don't worry Andrew I won't mention who-no waterboarding here!
CL- I have been known to have a major libertarian streak... ;) Plus, I think the IRS is a sham and waste of money- all the rules, and ins and outs, make it very easy for some to find flaws in the system and exploit them. That helps no one.
SOME Dems do have common sense. I like to think I am one of them. Now if I could just change the world and get them to stop accepting lobbyist money... and making really stupid comments like 'Well, mortage brokers made these bad loans!!!'. Ugh...
Tammy- i hope this holds.. I have everything crossed, including my eyes this time...

Ya I share that little libertarian streak with ya, but we're miles apart on the social issues. But who cares....As long as you don't try to slip in a rule with the flat tax that exempts low income that is ;) Everybody pays the same, why punish the motivated?>
Oops got off topic there, I'll be expecting a harsh email shortly.

Mr. ColoradoLender, please remain on topic, otherwise I will subject you to 3 full hours in the same room as Infoseeking and others, that I will not mention at this particular time. Please do not make me have to address this issue again with you or I may have to take out my Benali and use it next time.

I dont understand all the inside mind games going on here. The original post says there will be a surtax ? When will it go into effect ?
i havent got any price improvements. who is getting price improvements? this morning provident was .125 worse than close yesterday.
Greg- if someone works in America, and earns money in a free capitalist society, what should happen to their estate when they die exactly? They don't owe anything to the country that gave them those opportunities? The tax really doesn't even kick in until you hit $2mil, and most people in this country don't come close. But, let's say they did. There is nothing saying that a person can't 'sell' their children their home for $25. Is there? I could be totally wrong, but I do remeber something about that in real estate class.
If rich people are too dumb to realize they can't take anything with them, I don't know what to say. When I die, I don't want a single penny in my name. Not one. And at the rate i am going, that may just come true... hehehe
Tom, so nice of you to share PF's rates once again. You may want to switch back to your other screen name first though.

I believe that the 'gangs' conclusion was accurate, Infoseeking is indeed one of us. Are you waiving your sword around in a fit of anger Info? It never pays to be sneaky.

Dealseeker ... the link in the original post has the story. "Sanders Proposes Surtax on Wealthy to Pay for Bailouts" It is only another suggestion and not in effect at all.
As the election rhetoric increases, everyone will need to sort out who is promising gifts and who is capable of bringing changes needed. It is an election year and promises and suggestions are flying ...... and the smack downs will be increasing.
