There is a piece of property that is boarded-up that I might be interested in buying. What do I do?

A licensed realtor who is a member of the association of realtors can get all the material facts of any property for sale in the multiple listing service. If this property is in Las Vegas, contact me. I can help you. Click my photo to get my contact info. Thank you.

Check with your town clerk to see who the owner is, see if it's forclosed or in the process, otherwise contact a Realtor or the owner of the property to inquire whether the property is offered for sale.

Quite often, houses that appear to be abandoned are under some legal cloud -- for instance, the original owner has died and there are competing claims on the estate.

I lived down the block from such a house, it had been boarded up for 30 years and none of the competing claimants were willing to agree to any kind of settlement.

So there sat a multi-million dollar brownstone rotting away in one of the prime residential neighborhoods of Brooklyn.

Ownership of a property is a public record.  Visit the website of the city of Newark, NJ and search for assessor's office.  If they have an email address, simply click on it, otherwise call them or visit the city hall for the ownership information.
Good luck!
