Where are prices down?  This ugly looking stucco box, I mean house, just hit the market in my town at $1.2 million!  Where is the housing crash, huh?

And $1.2 million for new consturction in my area is actually cheap.  Most new construction here starts at $1.3 million!

Wow look at the lot sizes. I guess Alpine, New Jersey will always be expensive.

The house is not in Alpine.  It's in Cliffside Park. You aren't touching any new consturction in Alpine for less than $3 million.

We have our own gloom and doom website here: www.njrereport.com  I hae been reading the comments lately and all anyone on that website does is complain about taxpayer funded bailouts.  Boo hoo!  I can't even begin to count how many times I have been banned from that website!

I find those and "Cheerleader" less offensive than "moron" and "Idiot" that some use everyday.

Until we see that that first house actually sells for that price then it is too early to state anything about it or feel great about your area just because they came out of the gate with that price.   Price it high and see what offer we get............

The architecture in FL and NJ/NY is just plain fugly!!  No thanks.  A lovely cape cod or beautiful colonial trumps any of the homes pictured on this thread.

No thanks, I will pass on those FL houses.  The hurricane/flood insurance on those houses will be astronomical!  WHen you tell some insurers your trying to buy coverage for a house on the FL coast, they will hang up the pphone on you!

I don't care if it hit the market at 1.2 million, the key points are

(1) What's the actual sales price if/when it sells?

(2) How much were homes like that selling for at the peak of the bubble?

i.e. If this house ends up selling for 1.1 million, and similar houses were selling for 1.5 million at the peak of the bubble ... well, there's your housing crash.

No, homes like that were never sellingof ro $1.5 million at the peak.  The MOST they were selling is just over $1.2... maybe $1.25.  But those houses were solid brick, not stucco, so this house is priced at a peak price.

Silly Alpine.  Jacksonville is not on the "coast."  Further, the one house with the water view is overlooking a man-made pond that was installed by the builder to contain storm water.  They are standard in virtually all developments down here.

Well, excuse me for not knowing Florida.  Up north, we think that everyone who lives in Florida either lives in Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach counties.  Everything north is just taken up by Disney World.
