Time to get your home ready for FALL/WINTER

It is important to maintain your home, right now is a good time to get a number of items done:
Get your furnace checked (dont forget to change your filters)
Turn the fans the other way so they are now pushing heat down, not up-clockwise
Check the windows, some may need to be recaulked, check for drafts, put up storm windows
Gutters need to be cleaned now. Also make sure that water coming out of those gutters does not drain up against the house, get extensions and move that water away from the house
Pull hoses off and drain water in faucets. (same if you have an irrigation system)
Why blow those leaves off the lawn, they are good mulch, mow them into small pieces.
Get your chimney swept and ready for the winter months (yes, clean it every year if its fire burning)
Hope that helps.

You forgot to close your block vents , don't depend on them closing themselves even though some are designed to do so...they usually quit working on their own after a year or so.

You need to check if every possible tiny hole is covered as you don't want the out side cold air to come in making is load your heater,Make sure all your vehicles have ice scrapers and brushes to remove snow. Check your wiper fluid and antifreeze levels, and always keep your gas tank close to full to avoid freezing.

I was reading what californiafence posted on here and it reminded me of a time the snow just got to deep.
Sometimes the forum here goes beyond the housing and its just people helping one another, the car isn't a bad place to consider getting ready as californiafence suggested . To add 'by experience' put a few nice comfortable blankets in the trunk specially if you have a few little ones and live in a snowy area, they may come in handy if you find yourself broke down till help arrives.
