Took a sabbatical, and am now independent contractor, can I get a mortgage?Hi, I took a year off to go traveling (I was not laid off, I resigned my job.) Now I'm back in New York City and am wondering if I can get a mortgage to buy a place? I can put 20-30% down on a condo up to 500k asking price. I started work again in early January (although technically I am an independent contractor for the moment, it is a long term, full-time gig.) I am making >200k a year with this job, and for the 15 years before I took a year off I was employed consistently and have earned over 100k annually since 2001. I have never had a loan or mortgage or any kind of debt, and my credit score is over 700. I am 40, and single.Do I have any chance of getting a mortgage, given my lack of employment last year, and my independent contractor status? Thanks!March 28 2012 - Williamsburg00YesReport a ProblemProblemSelect oneOffensive contentIrrelevant contentSpam (pure self-promotion)OtherDetailsYour emailPlease enter a valid email address.Submit CancelContent flaggedWe will review this content.
