Top Listing Agents in Seattle?

As an employee of ZIllow I'm excited to see the kind of responses this creates. I'm also looking internally at my referral avenues as well.

I'm looking into listings a condo downtown that I bought back in 2008 and has been remodeling since. http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1120-8th-Ave-APT-904-Seattle-WA-98101/49038732_zpid/. I'm still wrapping up final work on the unit and it's clear the market has been headed downward since I moved in but I what I'm trying to do now is wrap up final remodel work and select a top few listing agents.

I'm not a demanding person and have realistic expectations and don't want this unit to sit on the market if it lists, but I'm looking for a pro who can differentiate themselves in how they market my home, show it and also help me best understand how to price and what can be done between now and when I'm thinking of listing it to get the biggest return.

I welcome anyone replying to this thread to share openly thoughts about who is/how to find the top listing agents in the downtown Seattle area. You may also contact me via email if you're a top listing agent and explain briefly why it might make sense for us to discuss this further.

Thanks for the thoughts!
-Kurt

Who are the top producers? There is no #1. There is the top tier however.

Look at a list of houses that have sold over the past couple of years. The listing and selling agents will be listed. This is easy to do for any realtor. How easy it is for a non-pro I am not sure. A broker/appraiser in Atlanta mentioned this and said they were among the top tier.

Kurt,

I would schedule interviews with a few.  Get a feel for them.  Some will turn your stomach, like a used car salesman.  When you find one you feel comfortable and who won't give you a bunch of BS give them a shot.  You can train a monkey to market a home, but you can't train integrity.  Find someone you feel cares about you and you'll have an agent for life.

Best of luck.

Kurt,
I don't know  its necessary to hire 'the top ten' The possible pitfall with that is the 'top ten' will not be personally handling your business. You will get someone else in their group, which is not to say that, that agent won't be terrific.
Just walk into a couple of open houses on the weekend and without telling thee realtor why you are there, talk to them. Those agents are motivated, they are out there holding open houses for their clients (or someone else's clients) For me, that tells me they don't mind doing the work.
Instead of selling that condo, have you considered holding on to it? Leasing it out until your market comes back? You live nearby and it sounds like you can do any maintenance work, you also get the write off for any maintenance etc If you need a referral for a good agent, click on my name and I can send you someone wonderful
Good luck to you. love Seattle, its such a wonderful city

Kurt,
Gordon Stephenson, who is on Zillow's Board of Directors, does a lot of work for Zillow employees. He helped me buy my house, and did a terrific job. I would leave him a review on Zillow, but employees aren't allowed to leave reviews.
There are a lot of other terrific agents in Seattle, many of whom post here in Advice.

Some of the top producers in town right now are the ones selling short sales.  They are absolute listing machines and do a huge volume of business.  That's probably not what you are after although honestly you might be in a short sale situation if you purchased your place in 2008.

Some of the complaints I've heard about high producing agents from sellers is that once the agent got the listing, they never talked to or saw that person again.  Everything was handled by an army of assistants.  Not saying that's a bad thing but it might not be what you are after either.

Good luck with your search.

There are many agents claiming to be "The Best" The most important thing to look for is someone that you feel comfortable with. The best way to meet agents is to attend Open Houses. You can interview agents there, see what their marketing materials look like and get a good feel for how the agent represents the home and their clients. You want an agent that will work in the same way you do. You want someone that is honest and willing to have the difficult coversations.

If this doesn't work I would ask friends and family for refferals. Make sure you always ask the agent for refferences and samples of their marketing.
